When I was a graphic design student, we were once asked to select some commercial packaging, and crop it, testing how much information we could lose before the logo became impossible to identify. Ever since, I’ve been fascinated with the limits of communication and the creative potential of reduction. By experimenting with proximity, getting rid of anything extraneous, one can exploit this potential creatively, revealing the essential elements and principles of design.
